Prohibited listings

While we welcome almost all knives, blades and knife-related items to be listed on KnifeMarket, there are some exceptions.

Prohibited knives/blades:

  • Dual-edge blades
  • OTF blades (switchblades/automatic/gravity knives)
  • Daggers, dirks, and stilettos
  • Disguised knives and knives with opening mechanisms designed for quick deployment of a blade

Our policy is in line with Stripe's (our payment processor and escrow service provider) Terms of Service as they identify the above blades as weapons. Stripe may suspend such accounts and will block any trade.

Prohibited listings will be removed from KnifeMarket, and the seller may get suspended.

Listing Verification - Proof of Ownership

Listing verification is an important part of ensuring safe and transparent trading on KnifeMarket. Listing verification provides proof of ownership, ensuring the listing is in the seller's possession. Most sellers choose to verify their listings.

When a new listing is submitted, the seller receives an email with verification instructions.

To verify the listing, the seller should:

  • Write down the received randomly generated code on a piece of paper.
  • Take a photo of the code next to the item and email it to us.
  • Our team will inspect the photo and verify your listing, if OK.

While listing verification is optional, we encourage sellers to verify their listings. Verified listings have a higher chance of getting sold. Buyers get additional assurance in your listing with the Verified badge:

Unverified listings receive a warning badge as proof of ownership has not been verified:

Dishonest Listings

We want to provide a safe place for trading knives, and this means creating trust between Buyers & Sellers. That is why every purchase on KnifeMarket is covered by our Buyer Protection program. In case the item you are selling is not in the same condition as advertised, Buyers are eligible for a full refund with the two-way shipping costs included. In such cases, all shipping costs are covered by you, the Seller.

Buyers may be eligible for a refund for the following reasons:

  • Inaccurate match to the listing
  • Not authentic / counterfeit
  • Undisclosed damage
  • Wrong item

This means there are no upsides to creating dishonest listings. It will only cost you additional money and can result in being banned from the KnifeMarket platform, and/or legal action.

KnifeMarket will investigate every claim presented to determine if the item is as described or warrants a return or refund. We understand that there might be dishonest buyers out there, so we will investigate every claim in detail. It is in your best interest to take photos of the item and the package with the visible shipping label before shipping it to the Buyer.

Stripe Connect Onboarding

After creating your first listing on KnifeMarket, you will be redirected to the ID check and bank account information section. Complete the information required by Stripe so you will be able to receive the payout once you sell your knife. The listing you created will be published, but until you complete Stripe's Verification process, buyers will not be able to purchase your item. The "Add to cart" button will be hidden until you complete the verification process.

This process is called “Know Your Customer” (KYC) and is required by Stripe (our payment processor and Escrow account provider). These requirements come from Stripe's regulators and are intended to prevent abuse of the financial system.

Generally, private sellers need to enter the following information, but this can vary depending on your country:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Address (validated city, state, and ZIP code)
  • Email
  • Phone
  • Tax information (US-only, last 4 digits of SSN)

Commercial sellers will need to provide additional details about their business. For a complete list of requirements by country, see Stripe's documentation: https://stripe.com/docs/connect/required-verification-information.

Understanding Escrow Account

Escrow is an agreement between two people or organizations in which money is kept by a third person or organization (in our case this is Stripe, the world's leading payment processing platform) until a specific condition is met.

On KnifeMarket, the Buyer will pay for the goods or services by transferring money to a third-party escrow account until the order is completed. Then the money is transferred to you, the Seller.

Shipping

For full transparency and traceability, all orders placed on KnifeMarket are shipped with trackable and fully insured courier shipping labels. All shipping labels are provided by KnifeMarket. At the moment, it is not possible to use your shipping services.

Shipping costs are predetermined based on your location and the location of the Buyer. We have negotiated rates from multiple courier services to get the best prices available for most destinations around the world. Normally we ship with DHL Express, UPS, FedEx, UPSP, GLS, or DPD.

Shipping cost is added at checkout and is covered by the Buyer. We currently do not offer a "Free shipping" option, but you can always lower the price of your item.

Once you confirm the order for your listing (you have 72 hours to do so), you will receive a prepaid shipping label from KnifeMarket via email. You have 5 business days to ship the order, otherwise the order will be canceled and the Buyer will receive a full refund. Contact us if you need more than 5 business days to arrange shipping.

→ Local Pickup
We support Local pickup if you choose to select it. Only select the Local pickup option if you are willing to meet with customers in person. Buyers must contact you before purchasing to arrange a delivery time and place. We recommend a safe, public place for the meeting.

IMPORTANT: While it may be enticing to handle payment during the pickup (to avoid paying KnifeMarket's service fee), we highly recommend that the payment is handled via KnifeMarket as both you and the Buyer will lose all the privileges our platform offers. Also, handling cash in front of strangers can lead to uncomfortable situations.

Accepting an Order

When the Buyer makes a purchase, you will receive an email notification. You have 72 hours to accept or decline the order. If you accept the order, the Buyer's money will be transferred to the Escrow account where it will stay until they confirm delivery. You can start preparing your order for secure shipping. You will receive a pre-paid shipping label from KnifeMarket via email.

IMPORTANT: You are shipping sharp blades. Protect the knife so it won't hurt anyone along the way!

Service Fee

Creating a listing on KnifeMarket is free. You only pay a service fee when your item sells.

The fee depends on the final selling price of your item:

Product price Seller Service Fee
Under $115 $8 fixed fee
$115–$299.99 7%
$300–$599.99 6.5%
$600–$999.99 5.5%
Over $1,000 4.5%

Service fee is deducted from the Seller’s payout.

Receiving Payment

There are two possible timelines for receiving payment on a completed order:

  1. Accelerated: Funds are released from our Escrow account 1-2 business days after the Buyer confirms delivery. Buyers have five (5) calendar days to confirm or reject the delivery. This confirmation period begins when the tracking status updates to “Delivered.”
  2. Standard: If the Buyer does not confirm or reject the delivery within the given timeframe, funds will be automatically released from our Escrow account seven (7) days after the recorded delivery date (based on the courier’s tracking information).

Your earnings (minus KnifeMarket's service fee) will be transferred to the bank account you specified during the Verification process. Please allow an additional 1-3 business days for the funds to reflect in your account.

Returns & Disputes

Buyers have 5 calendar days after delivery to request a return or open a dispute.

A return applies when the Buyer received the item and it can be sent back to the Seller, including defective, damaged, misrepresented, or wrong items, as well as no-questions-asked returns if the Seller allowed them for the listing.

A dispute applies when something serious or unclear has happened with the order and KnifeMarket needs to investigate before deciding on a refund, return, Seller payout, courier claim, or other resolution. This may include missing packages, lost shipments, empty packages, unrelated contents, suspected tampering, suspected fraud, counterfeit claims, or disagreement between the Buyer and Seller.

If a return or dispute is opened, the Seller’s payout may be held until the case is reviewed and resolved. KnifeMarket may ask both parties for relevant evidence. If the case is decided in favor of the Buyer, the Seller’s payout may be cancelled, held, or reversed. If it is decided in favor of the Seller, the payout may be released.

All returns must be arranged through KnifeMarket. Buyers should not ship items back themselves unless KnifeMarket has approved it in advance. All shipping labels provided by KnifeMarket are trackable and insured for the value of the order.

See our Returns vs Disputes guide for details.
