Product description
A special old piece of the first generation Tadayoshi Wakizashi blade
signature tang, Tadayoshi of Hizen
四代目忠吉
Japanese traditional by Hizen Tadayoshi of Hizen Province
The school of Tadayoshi of Hizen continued throughout the Edo period into the present century. It was sponsored by the 'daimyo' of the Nabeshima family, making swords solely for the use of the domain, whereas most smiths in the Edo period worked on a commercial basis. The swords are characterised by the finest-grained bright steel
Tadayoshi VI was the second son of Tadayoshi V. He became successor to his elder brother when he died prematurely in 1755 (Horeki 5), and inherited his father's title in 1775 (An'ei 4) at the age of 40, taking the name Tadayoshi VI. He received the title of Omi no kami in 1790 (Kansei 2) and died in 1815 (Bunka 12) at the age of 80. The five-character signature of Tadayoshi has been highly prized since the early Edo period, when Tadayoshi I was active, and each generation, with the exception of the second and seventh generations, has a five-character signature. The signature of the sixth generation did not rise so much and the mekugi holes are slightly larger than those of the other generations. This work has a powerful appearance with a long cut edge, a brilliant colour and deep nie and nioi of the blade, and is elaborate in some places.
