Product description
Austrian Army Bundesheer “B x H” Round Glock 78 Knife FM78 Vintage Generation 0
This ORIGINAL MILITARY AUSTRIAN MADE FIELDKNIFE 78 - doesn't say "Made in Austria," instead it has “B x H” where the small x is the circumscribed triangle of the Bundesheer. Officially it was introduced in: Österreichisches Bundesheer as Fieldknife 78 in 1978.
The Glock Fieldknife 78 has now become almost a "must-have" for collectors of combat knives and military utility knives, becoming a kind of "iconic combat knife."
The Austrian Bundesheer issues Glock FM 78 to all soldiers. These are high-quality knives made by Glock in Austria and suitable for general utility tasks and hard use.
The Glock FM 78 is a simple and durable tool. It was developed in co-operation with the Austrian special forces Jagdkommando. Glock knives are used by various armies and armed special units in Austria, Denmark, Germany (GSG9), Taiwan, and South Korea, to name a few.
The Glock Knife as a Bayonet. The end of the handle has a detachable plug but it's very tight and removing it is likely to leave marks. You can carefully press a thin blade into the groove and rotate it around the plug to make a slightly larger groove where you can push a thicker blade and progressively continue until the plug comes off.
Removing the plug reveals a 12 x 39 mm hole, officially for a bayonet adapter, but ingenious people can use it for anything else.
The sheath in particular is extremely durable compared to the commercial civilian version. The version why is because glock is known for making a name in composites in plastics for the austrian army and have special durable blends while the civilian version is not as durable and very bendable. The army version is durable and rugged.
Brand-new CIVILIAN versions of the SQUARE glock 78 knife can be purchased in stores, and even with various "GLOCK" stamps on the blade, sheath, and handle, it is not possible to definitively determine whether these products are actually original knives manufactured by GLOCK. They were made for the civilian market specifically.
You can find the GLOCK 78, also the GLOCK 81, in the civilian version for official trade at prices between $35 and $100, depending on the seller and my observations on the market. Color of sheath and etc.
