Product description
Gentlemen,
I present a knife from my collection – an authentic piece with character and history from the so-called golden age of Sakai blacksmithing.
This is not an export product. This Ko-Deba was intended for the Japanese domestic market, where quality standards were higher and craftsmen selected only the best pieces. Such knives were made for fish markets, restaurants, and professionals, which is why their hardening, steel quality, and workmanship often surpass many of their modern counterparts.
• Right-hand single bevel
A classic professional Japanese standard that ensures maximum cutting precision and control.
• Stainless steel ferrule
A clear sign that the knife was intended for the Japanese domestic market, where fish processing hygiene requirements were particularly strict.
• Original ho-wood handle
The handle is in excellent condition – sturdy, clean, with authentic craftsman's markings. This is a significant plus for collectors.
Condition
Considering its age of 50-60 years, the knife is very well preserved.
The profile is intact, with a full "life reserve" – about 47 mm in height at the heel (almost original size).
The blade shows:
• natural, beautiful vintage patina
• small "freckle"-type surface rust spots
• one pea-sized surface rust spot towards the tip
• surface rust near the handle
All rust is superficial and easily removable, but has been deliberately left to preserve the authentic patina.
For a vintage knife, preserving the patina is more valuable than cosmetic shine – this condition reflects its true, natural history.
Impression
This is a knife with history, character, and soul.
Not a sterile modern product, but a true heirloom of Sakai blacksmithing, created in an era when craftsmen worked by hand.

Imperfections (if any)
To preserve the historical authenticity of the knife and its natural patina, which has formed over decades, any surface oxidation marks have been left untouched. While these small 'freckles' can easily be removed, they give the vintage tool character and bear witness to its true history.Country of manufacture
